Port of Sunderland
The Port of Sunderland, owned by Sunderland City Council, has a key role supporting the city's low carbon agenda and is privileged to sponsor an important new category - the ‘Low Carbon Award' - in the North East Business Awards.
Alongside a wide range of traditional port activities, an increasing focus is being applied to offshore wind and other renewable energy markets. Sunderland is a recognised base for vessels involved in
pre-development marine survey activities and subsea assembly and installation work for current Round 2 developments. With the benefits of an excellent supply chain environment, we also seek to maximise on-site opportunities for component manufacture and assembly for wind turbines and wind turbine power, together with installation and ongoing maintenance services.
Three kilometres of quay frontage and 260 acres of development space within the port area, plus 24-hour access to river berths minutes from open sea, are amongst the major physical benefits we offer; we are bringing onshore synergy to offshore energy in many other ways, too.
The Low Carbon Award acknowledges the significant efforts made within Sunderland to achieve a successful sustainable low carbon economy for the city and the region, and the Port of Sunderland is delighted to be involved.
